Napa Valley

Cat Cottage

Sunny San Diego to A-list Los Angeles. Romantic Monterey to sparkles by the bay... and everywhere in between. David and I were California dreamin’, big time.

In June 2015 we packed our bags, flew from NYC to San Diego, and hopped our asses in a little red convertible mustang. Wild at heart and madly in love, we hit the open road up the coast of California, the way free spirits do.

After our 10-day rumble and surfin’ safaris, it was time to “wine down” with some cats and cabernet in Napa Valley.

Napa Valley is casual and quaint. Take a quiet walk along a river, enjoy the smell and taste of fresh produce at a local farmer’s market, grab a picnic and absorb the ambiance of wine country, or find a hidden tasting room downtown.

We lodged at a cat cottage found on Airbnb. The home was brimming wall-to-wall with cat memorabilia and blasts of colorful feline friendly artwork. This was the perfect kind of cozy environment for creepy cat people like ourselves.

During our trip, we visited Benziger Family Winery. What used to be a pot farm in the 60s is now Sonoma’s first biodynamic, organic, and sustainable winery. The primary contribution Benziger has made to its environment has been through its specialized growing process, which saves 2 million gallons of water per year! Benziger wines range from $20-$200 per bottle with notes available for every palette. Check out their site for a complete list of current wines.

By the end of our trip, we were ready for some relaxation and healing. We found a mystical spa called Magical Massage & Inspiration Gallery in the town of Glen Ellen. Here, you can get your energy reworked in a 22-foot wide wine barrel, with a therapeutic massage, facial, and other spa treatments. We left feeling refreshed and totally detoxed from too much wine tasting.

Taking cat naps, visiting pot-farms transformed to vineyards, and getting massages in house-sized wine barrels is just a small dose of Napa and its surrounding towns. Each season has something special to offer, so we’re hoping to go back to a few years from now to discover more. If you have any tips or experiences you loved while you were visiting Napa, send me a message! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
